Wreck of the Vaucluse, 1864

Hull Packet and East Riding Times, Friday 19th  February 1864 The loss of the Vauclose

The fully rigged sailing ship, Vaucluse was on a voyage from Hull to South Sheilds on 13th February 1864 when she was caught in a gale at Sand Haile at the mouth of the Humber. Fourteen of the twenty people on board were rescued by the Donna Nook Lifeboat.  The rest reached shore in a boat at Saltfleetby Open, where the exhausted survivors were helped by villagers.
